It’s that time of year again, spring is in full blow and the track is boiled and ready for the returning State Champions to hit the ground running…literally.

Like all State Championship teams, the bar is set higher for athletes the following year.

“My expectations are pretty high,” Gary Griffin, head coach, said. “We do have several qualifers returning that we have high hopes for and hope they step up.”

Knowing there is a lot of potential for this season puts a lot of pressure on the athletes. Loosing placers like Colleen O’Brien and Mark Sitek may cause others to have to step up and work harder than ever before.

For some veteran athletes it, striving to live up to high expectations is nothing new.

“I’m excited for this year,” Nathan Goodwin, senior, said. “Me being a senior and already coming home with a gold last year, I’m not too worried about the pressure for this year.”

The Wildcats have their first track meet April 5th at Paola.
